• 6-8 Program

  • Our middle school students and their parents will have an initial meeting with their teacher to collaborate on a personalized learning plan for their student. This plan will take into consideration the specific interests, learning style, and academic goals of the student while making curricular and extracurricular choices. During this meeting, the student will also choose a meeting time to come to the campus and meet with a learning cohort of up to twelve students.

This three hour cohort time will be the same each week and will either be an AM (9am - 12pm) or PM (1-4 pm) cohort. During this cohort meeting, the entire focus is to inspire a love for learning through peer interaction, large group activities, station work and one on one teacher time. Group activities will include science laboratories, social studies projects, problem solving activities, and discussions. Examples of stations during cohort are writing, critical thinking, subject focused enrichment, research, and science laboratory analysis.

Another aspect of the cohort is share time. Share time is when students bring a sample of their work to share with the class. This allows students to share an aspect of their home based learning with other students which often fuels a culture of community and acceptance in diverse learning styles and diverse home based schooling.  In addition, share time enables the teacher to meet any individual and specific learning needs of the student. If the student has needs that extend beyond the cohort, this time allows the teacher to recognize these needs and schedule a time to meet with the student and parent during the teacher’s office hours to aid in the educational process.

Everything that is included in their cohort meeting is designed to inspire a love for learning. In addition to fueling a love for learning for our enrolled students we desire our parents to enjoy their time on campus as well.  Parents will have access to our Parent Center for relaxation and encouragement in the home based learning process. Childcare will also be provided during their cohort meeting for younger siblings so that parents can truly “unplug,” enjoy a cup of coffee, and collaborate with other parents in the home based learning process. Our desire is for parents and students to see cohort time as a highlight of their week!
